Edit from 26/05/2012: the giveaway is now closed! I’ll draw a winner and announce it here during the week-end. Thank you!

Here it is! Today is May 21st, also known as Giveaway Day! It’s also a big day for this blog as it moved and just got its own hosting and domain name. :) It had been in my mind for some time. At first I was thinking about doing it for it’s third birthday next week, but when I discovered the date of the new Giveaway Day I decided to rush things a little. It will be much easier to read, as the French and English versions are now separated (but it’s easy to switch between the two with the language buttons!). There might be a few things to tweek still, but I think I solved most minor problems that appeared after the move and this blog is ready for you. ^^ So, in honor of my blog getting back to life before its anniversary and getting its own domain, and also just because it’s fun, here is my giveaway for Giveaway Day. My first giveaway!

I’m offering a book cover that I made especially for this occasion. The pattern was inspired by similar book covers I saw in Japan. I’ve been using one myself since last summer (when I first drafted the pattern), and I have to say it’s very useful. I go to work by train each day, so I always carry a book in my bag, and they are now nice and protected thanks to this.

It is meant for small books (paperback books I think in English, right?). It’s based on French books but since the british/amercian books I own are smaller than my French ones, it should be okay for most books. The size is adjustable: there is a flap that you fold around the front of the book and then maintain with an elastic. That way you can still use the same cover even if you have books of different thicknesses. There is a bookmark that match the front fabrics so that you can find where you stopped easily. The cover can be washed: it’s made of different cotton fabrics (even the inside lining) and all have been prewashed to prevent shrinking.

So how can you win it? It’s very easy: just leave a comment on this post. Any comment will do, but if you want to leave something nicer, I’d love to read anything book-related: a book or author that you recommend and why, a book-related memory, when you enjoy reading the most, what style of litterature you prefer, a book-related accessory you like… If you do I will also find something book-related to share when I announce the winner. ^_^ Comments are open until early morning on the 26th (since it’s UTC+2 here) and the winner (randomly chosen) will be announced by the 27th. The giveaway is open to anyone anywhere in the world.

And make sure to go check all the other giveaways on Sew Mama Sew’s blog!

Giveaway Day! — 39 Comments

  2. Love reading teen reads as they are a lot easier and faster to read than some others. Also love historical romances and have read many over the last 20years

  3. I love anything by C.S. Lewis. Absolutely inspiring!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  4. Congratulations on your domain name and hosting your own blog, that is a big achievement and I am glad you were able to do it before the giveaway so we can all see it! I LOVE the idea of a book cover! I read all the time and this would be the perfect prize for me. I enjoy all types of books from Cozy mysteries to Non-Fiction, memoir to chick lit. My favorite book memory is from my childhood. The first book I learned to read was called “Miss Suzy”, it was the story of a squirrel who gets chased out her tree home by a band of bad squirrels. I think I actually memorized it before I could even read, but I loved that book! I am so blessed to have had parents who loved to read, who read to me and who encouraged my love of reading.

Thank you for participating in this giveaway for the wonderful prize you are offering.

    Have a wonderful day,
    Maureen

    • I just saw that you offer your blog in English too .. well yes sometimes it’s good to read everything on a page. Ahh well it wasn’t too bad to have to wrack my brain for what’s left of my school french .. I really should start training it again .. but hat will have to wait

  6. That is so beautiful! I keep meaning to make a book cover because I have the same problem – I go to work by train and my books get bashed around in my bag.
I have so many book-related memories it’s hard to share just one – I don’t remember not being able to read and was always under the bedcover reading by torch light after “lights out”. Now I do proofreading as one of my jobs and my boyfriend writes books… I like to read a lot of classics; I’ve just finished Robinson Crusoe and am now reading Madame Bovary.

  7. What a fab book cover. Thank you for a fun giveaway. My favourite book since I have been a little girl is Anne of Green Gables. It still makes me happy.

  8. How beautiful. I’d love to win that for my children, when they borrow books from the library, to keep them intact! =) Thank you.

  9. What a great idea. I hate to have my books look messy and having a beautiful such as you made would be so nice!

  10. I love your book cover, but the link from Sew, Mama, Sew took me to the French version. I spent a minute debating if my high school French was up to entering the contest before, thank goodness, I saw the English button. Tho you might have found my attempt at a comment in French amusing, if not comprehensible. I’m a fairly eclectic reader – scifi, mystery, paranormal, classic literature, I love it all. The third book in a wonderful zombie series comes out today, Blackout by Mira Grant (Feed and Deadline were the first two books). I’m really looking forward to reading it.

  11. do you ship to the US? If so, please enter me into this giveaway and thank you for the chance! It’s a lovely cover. Book related story… Well, I read Jane Austen at least once per year. Usually Pride and Prejudice but if not that, Sense and Sensibility. I just have to… It’s a “me time” thing. :)

  12. I like to read when I am on vacation – I don’t get much time in my regular life. So on vacation I often read a book a day!

  13. The book cover is such a great idea. I made one from paper once when I borrowed a friend’s book and didn’t want to crease it in my bag. It didn’t last very well!

  14. Congrats on the new hosting of the blog !!!
And what a lovely giveaway !
I have to admit that a book cover will be very useful for the book I always carry in my bag (usually Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan or Le petit Prince).

  15. The Glass Castle is one of my favorites. also, The Liar’s Club, poems by Mary Oliver, The Poisonwood Bible and all the Poppleton series for kids.
    thanks!

  16. Very pretty. I enjoy sci-fi, fantasy and historical fiction. Thanks for the giveaway!

  17. I love the book cover! Thanks for the giveaway. I have always loved to read. As a young girl I would save my allowance and walk to a local toy shop that sold the Nancy Drew books and buy a new book as often as possible! I do have a Nook (e-reader) but I still buy books.

  18. Congrats on figuring out the domain and other stuff. That kind of thing is so easy for my sweet daughter, but makes my head hurt. Haha! We collect older books, especially history and non fiction types. Lovely book cover!

  19. Bookcovers are so wonderful–beautiful AND useful! I love reading YA novels, specifically either “vanilla” ones (John Green, Maureen Johnson) or dystopian ones (Suzanne Collins, Scott Westerfeld).

  20. David Gemmell is one of my new favorite authors. He writes fantasy and his books are always so action-packed. They’re so unexpected too which I love in a fantasy genre.

  21. I Have been reading Shades od Gray and really enjoying it. Sorry I can’t tell you who wrote it as I forgot to grab it from my work locker this morning before heading home. Love the book cover. Thanks for a chance

  22. I love Little Women by Louisa May Alcott!!!:) I’ve read it a few times. One of my favorite book memories was reading Little Women in the corner behind my bed on a stack of pillows and blankets!

  23. I really need this bookcover! I just started reading that smutty book- 50 Shades of Grey. I can’t carry it out of the house, it’s embarrassing. I’m reading it because everyone is talking about it. I have to say, I am not liking it so far.

  24. I won’t name any one book but I want to say I share your love of books. Typography, interesting titles, beautiful cover illustrations. I am sad that the world is leaning toward techno books. For me, nothing can compare to holding a real book in my hands and turning the pages.

  25. I love finding book related fabric and one of my favourite sewing projects was a tote bag made with a brilliant fabric. Thanks for the chance :)

  26. Oh what a lovely idea to stop books getting damaged. I hate when the covers of my books get bent in my bag! I read The Hunger Games recently which were good. I also read a short story called The monk and the hangman’s daughter, which was good :)

  27. Thank you for the giveaway! I love to read science fiction and fantasy. I love the authors Kristen Britain, Tamora Pierce, Mercedes Lackey, Anne McCaffery, and Steven Gould.

  28. I love to read, this cover would be perfect for my library! One of my favorite authors is Carlos Ruiz Zafon.
